On May 29, 2025, the Romanian National Commission for UNESCO held the hybrid-format conference “Heritage in the Digital Age. Best Practice Examples from Romania”, bringing together experts to explore how digital technologies are reshaping the understanding, preservation, and dissemination of cultural heritage. The event aimed to raise awareness among professionals and the wider public about UNESCO’s current priorities, as outlined in key strategic documents such as the 2005 Convention in the digital environment, the MONDIACULT 2022 Declaration, and the 2024 Global Framework for Culture and Arts Education. Through case studies ranging from virtual museums and AI-assisted literary analysis to augmented reality applications and digital archiving, the conference highlighted both the transformative potential and the ethical complexities of cultural digitalization, reaffirming UNESCO’s commitment to inclusive and forward-looking heritage policies. The papers presented at the conference will be collected in a volume that will be published at the end of 2025.
