On March 7th, at the National Commission of Romania for UNESCO took place the launching event of the II-nd edition of "UNESCO’s Academy of Young Women" project, which this year addresses the theme "Mass-media as a tool for women’s empowerment". The project, which is implemented in partnership with BURDA Romania media trust, will bring together young journalists from different European countries, and gender, intercultural education, communication & design specialists. Addressing this issue, in line with the UN development goals and the EU's campaign to eradicate violence against women in 2017, the project aims to contribute to the regional establishment of a non-violent society based on understanding, solidarity, dialogue, cooperation and peace.
Along with International Women's Day, we marked today the International Mother Language Day, which was celebrated on February 21st. Representatives of national minorities in Romania received diplomas from our institution for their special contribution to the promotion of their mother language.
The event was attended by representatives of the Romanian Parliament, national minorities in Romania, the City Hall of Bucharest, clubs, centers and associations for UNESCO, Romanian EU youth delegates, as well as media representatives. We were also honored with the presence of Mr. Igor Kitaev, education program specialist of the UNESCO Regional Bureau for Europe, who emphasized the great collaboration that exists between the Organization and UNESCO entities in Romania.
